When I got an email asking me to send my wares down to their new home at Harvest, I was a little overexcited. I ADORE Harvest. Everything about them, they are the best. I take their hand printed linen tote with me everywhere I go... and am planning my next Melbourne trip around their workshops... so gutted I've missed all the amazing ones this year.

This weekend and for a little while longer until the 25th, Harvest Workroom(be still my beating heart) are having a Christmas market! What are you up to Sunday? I'll tell you, eating tacos, hanging with your friends and finding handmade goodness for all your nearest and dearest...
The line up is incredible so I am stoked to be a part of it. Also I'm so rarely in Melbourne selling my pieces so if you're around this will be a treat, as you can pop in and try everything on!
I'm thinking it's going to be the most colourful, friendly space you could possibly be this Sunday.

Do Bowerbirds fly south for the summer?

I don't have the answer to that.

But it's almost time to fly South for the spring...to Adelaide! Tomorrow in fact.

I'm popping down to Adelaide in time to kit you out for the big events coming up... holidays, race days (Melbourne Cup is next Tuesday!!!) christmas, new year...
Need something to win the office Melbourne Cup hat party?
Perhaps a bright blue leather turban to bring some Gatsby vibes to your wardrobe?
Bowerdbird will be open Friday(tomorrow!!) night, and all day Saturday and Sunday this weekend. So pop in after work, have a drink and listen to the beautiful live music that I so thoroughly enjoyed last event.

Have I had an awesome week or what?
It started with Canberra Handmade and ended with a blissful Friday at my new place of work The Standard Store.

So Canberra, you were pretty fun.

A couple of shout outs must go to:
The ladies at Lincraft in Civic. Big ups to you, you know who you are. Thanks for the poles from the inside of fabric rolls you gave me, my stall would never have been the same without you. It also would never have been such a funny weekend without them.

Another must be for Katy and Kim. I've never laughed so much that I cried at a market before. Our corner at Handmade totally rocked and made my weekend all the more spectacular.

Kim makes the most wonderous bowls in all shapes and colours and florals. oh so floriade... but chic. See here

This fella made his toy with his Dad. It's called Robby... the robot.
Watch out for him in the future at markets, I let him know he could definitely sell toys like that. Cuuuuuuuuuuuuute!

Oh and the adventures over at Floriade were endless...
From Sharon's facts about mourning jewellery that turned into her giving me an 1800's miniature dolls head, that sits on a found chop bone... to Katy's cartwheels to drum up business... It was too cold to take photos of their stalls, but you can see Katy's Adventure pants here. Or as we coined that night "Choose your own Adventure Pants"
I barely found time to see the flora. But I did.

And then I managed to fit in one hour at The Art Gallery. Not enough, but I got my fix.

That's the ceiling in The Art Gallery, before I was very kindly(and I mean that) told that no photos were allowed.

So Thanks to my birthplace for the fun times.
Oh and I'll leave you with a photo of me eating at Ruby's Chinese. I have not eaten this meal(honey beef) since I was probably 5 years old. I've always remembered it and damn it was good to be back 25 years later.

So it's been a wee while between blog posts, but things have been busy behind the scenes here in the studio...

New markets are on the agenda in the next few weeks, plus a few "watch this space" situations that I'll keep you informed with as the weeks go on... tempting I know!

September 17th will see me performing at my first music festival...and by performing I mean spruiking my wares! In the back streets of Surry Hills... Devonshire st and surrounds... fun!

This should be a really nice day out, chilled, great sounds, and one of my new favourites Lanie Lane is performing...check her video out below...also Mikelangelo and The Tin Stars feat. St Clare... lovely stuff!
There will be food and some other cute market stalls to check out between bands... sounds like my kind of Saturday... Sep 17th 12pm -10pm... Get your tickets here

I'll be there with a huge assortment of goodies that you can wear while you're dancing on Devonshire Street... turbans in every shade your 'colour blocking heart' desires!

Then in just a couple more weeks.. it's down to Canberra to Floriade, for the Canberra Handmade market.

Pretty beside myself over this one, as it's a) my home town and b) floriade is on!!
A close third place would have to be that I have Friday there to visit Pancake Parlour and actually wander around Floriade before the weekend markets... yay!

So before Erin, my neighbour at Finders Keepers had finished setting up, I was hawk eyeing her wares. I mean... how good are these?!!!

Even the interiors are hiding pastel magic...and that font!

They stack up nicely and clink clink like only porcelain can.

And the second time I've almost got my ears pierced just because of one particular earring... the other time being Emily Green.

My prediction is very big things for Erin Lightfoot.

I know I'm always talking about young Beattie on here, but look what she's gone and done...

Completely blown me away with her double dose of colourful extravaganza of the botanical variety.

Trust Beattie to have a pop up shop on the pavement and make it look like she's sitting in a picture book that smells as delicious as a basket full of sweet pea!

And the one day I'm not in Sydney to enjoy a boat ride over to see her...

Please do this again dear friend...Can you imagine how happy this would have made all the people walking/driving by?

Glorious, glorious, Brisbane in the winter... honestly, it's like a Summer vacation up there! The sun poured down on us out on the balcony on the weekend, and we soaked up the rays as we sold our wares...

I got pretty lucky with my neighbours on the balcony with me... The lovely Sarah with her angular silver jewels

and Erin Lightfoot and her porcelain bangles that I coveted immediately!

We shared toffee apple lollipops(courtesy of Holly from the Frankie Mag stall), waited until the afternoon for our morning coffees(thanks to the endless queues), and were not quite skilled enough to smuggle in our beers to celebrate the end of the weekend!

2 years later, it was obviously the time for the character to bust out her feather headband for a bit of a shindig at her coastal rental.

Leon lives in Hong Kong and is only in Sydney for one week a year, so appointments get made months in advance.
Here's my wee little tat he did yesterday...

And then....
Last year he began this epic tattoo for Pili in our backyard. There are 40......can you see what they are...?

And one year later...woah, the pain threshold was severely pushed... 6 hours... it's amazing... graphic, abstract and beautiful!

This man still sends shivers down my spine when I hear him sing Casimir Pollanski Day.
I saw him play at The Forum in Melbourne. A truly unforgettable performance. He marched onto the stage with his colourful band wearing oversized wings, and with a melancholy face. He told stories and had us all hypnotised.
Sufjan will play the Sydney Festival, and I will be there.
What's not to love about a man who enjoys a good backdrop to his portraits.

Brisbane was fascinating.
Out of every Finders market I've done in Melb and Sydney and here, Brisbane produces the cutest girls, friendliest customers, most wonderful live music and some of the best dressed people.
Girls with beautiful pastel apricot shirts, boater hats, herringbone and mustard combos, hot haircuts and printastic fantastic dresses.
Not afraid to embrace colour, stand out and dress up for such an occasion, I was so impressed and inspired! Credit where credit is due!

holy dooly, tombow textas? wowsers... i never knew they existed until 3 days ago when I reached into my purse and paid $7 for each one! worth it...totally.

I went to a party supply shop in Melbourne to buy helium balloons...silly me didn't realise you had to book in if you want 6 balloons filled. ridiculous. so I settled for confetti. pretty little rainbows.

So close to missing this...thank goodness MCA were on the ball with their Tweets...

David LaChapelle was in town doing a public photo shoot with regular people at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay.

Brilliant set design(I want the swans!). Gorgeous blue sky Sydney day. And unbelievably, barely a crowd, so you could watch the man in action right up close.

All for the new Nokia N8, which i missed out on receiving as they were giving them out to people with the oldest phones. Mine was not from 2006, so I obviously didn't deserve it.

This guy was classic LaChapelle material...

Despite his big rockstar photographer status, he was kind enough to sign my little blue adidas and have this dorky photo taken with me.
I danced my blue suede shoes all the way home!

if this was me when i was 5, i would have had an ice cream container on my head, with eyes painted on, so crows wouldn't attack me on the way to school. this girl looks way calmer.

So Finders Keepers Melbourne was a couple of weeks ago now, but it's never too late to let you know how amazing it was, and how cool so many of the stalls were!

I've been admiring Emma's work for a while, and now finally this amazing piece is sitting above my desk in the studio. Watch out for Emma Leonard, she's cute on a stick!

Jen Hall... this one could have snuck by me, as sometimes you just don't get to see every single stall. but thanks to Beattie's sister Chloe whipping out her purchase over dinner, I was made wise to the geometric ways of Jen.

Goldenink Collaborative. Ok. I think I have a major crush. I'm sure I told everyone I came across to visit their stall. The attention to detail. The Colours. The tiny tiny painting and the even tinier crochet. Bliss. And the sweetest girls ever.

Beattie. Need I say more? Yes I need. The fact that her stuff went nuts in Melbourne is just testament to this girls' style. Within the first few hours I was seeing girls walk past me in their Beattie purchases, practically skipping with joy!

Beci Orpin. The great wall of Beci. I only wish I had a spare minute to leave my stall and watch the lady at work. That wall just made me wanna eat ice creams, bubblegum, boysenberry and strawberry stacked in a cone with cream and toppings and hundreds and thousands!

I ate a shroom burger every day I was at the markets. So that's 2. And you know what? That was no where near enough. Follow that Beatbox Kitchen Melbourne folk, if you know what's good for ya.

Wah Wah , be still my pastel heart! She pinned a purple heart on me for bravery and she filled me with love. My favourite Wah Wah necklace is around my neck 99% of the time. And hailing from Melbourne, she was back on her stomping ground and doing a roaring trade!

Odds & Ends had the best trompe l'oeil I'd seen in a long time! These spiky little creatures could be cuddled right up! These would look awesome on a sunny windowsill next to a stack of Women's Weekly cookbooks.

If you're interested in fashion or photography or design, make sure you get down to The Powerhouse Museum tomorrow(Saturday 7th August) to see the Framed photo shoot. In conjunction with the Archive exhibition of Bruno Benini, this shoot will be in the hands of the best in the business, styled by Megan Morton and wardrobe stylist, Anna Raju, designer Benja Harney, and photographer Hamish Ta-me.
Some of my pieces will be styled with the amazing dresses on show, including Gail Sorronda, Romance was Born and Akira.

A lovely girl from Hong Kong came up to me at the Paddington Markets and said, "you are famous in Hong Kong". She was really sweet and gave me the magazine article she had cut out and brought with her. I have no idea what it says, but I remember the girls that did the interview and they were gorgeous, so hopefully it's as nice as they were!

Beattie after a huge weekend, still smiling and giggling!

Finders Keepers was a brilliant weekend. I wish it wasn't over!! On the plus side, I am overflowing with new ideas and sewing and drawing and gluing and collaging morning noon and night to bring you more goodies all the time! It was especially nice to see new customers and to be inspired by the well-dressed peeps that came along! Cracking good times all 'round!

But I can make bows. Oh yes! So leather is the new feather, for real. New in my shop www.southforthesummer.etsy.com, and more will be updated in the next day or so... there will be beautiful baby blues, red, pastel pink, natural tan, coral, tangerine, slate, metallic silver. And they're all nice and soft and mould to your head.

Personally, I'm rockin' the natural one... love it.

p.s lots more things in the pipeline made with gorgeous coloured leather. Think patchwork accessories!

So who are these crowns for? Unfortunately not for the gorgeous Zoe in the pictures, but Sia. She wanted something that could be seen from 200 feet away, so hopefully these do the trick!

My favourite has to be the felt, pianstakingly cut to shape as I went along, but I love the finished product. I hope she does too!

I'm having visions of the patchwork felt for Melbourne cup, with Alice in Wonderland pastels... hmmm

Singing her most famous song "Breathe Me", and my other favourites Buttons, Soon we'll be found, I go to sleep... The lovely Sia Furler, wore My feather head piece on stage last night for her gig at The Enmore! I had more than a few moments wear I shed a little tear of happiness in the audience :)
So now in her honour I have officially changed the name of that head piece to "Sia", formerly known as "Helena"!

Yep, I can die happy now :)xxx
P.S. Takes the cake for best concert ever, and most amazing live vocals!
